Wisdom Cries Out

By Kevin Harris, pastor of the Illawarra Community Baptist Church in Dapto, NSW

Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors. Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

Proverbs 8:1-9

I will not be writing for the next few weeks while an overseas trip is taken, but I would like to share this passage of Scripture to think upon.

Wise people invite others to be wise, and they do so both publicly and passionately.

Wise people’s mouths are characterised by excellence (verse 6), righteousness (verses 6, 8-9), truth (verse 7), and plainness (verse 9).

Those same qualities exist in our Saviour. The more like Christ I become, the more my tongue will have these same qualities.

Father, in a world of perversity, confusion, wickedness and multiple lies, the contrast is stark. Saturate me in Your wisdom which is from above, and found in the pages of Scripture. I ask this in the precious Name of the Lord Jesus, Amen.
