1 Peter 5:8
It is crucial that we believers know the time in which we live. 2 Timothy 3:1 says, ‘In the last days perilous times shall come.’ We must not forget that we are in a battle. We have an enemy who is constantly ‘seeking whom he may devour.’ If we let down our guard, we are likely to become his next victim.
In these final days before the Pre-Tribulational Rapture, the father of lies has his crafty false teachers out there deceiving everyone he can. Lies multiply.
How refreshing it is to open God’s Word and read pure truth! God Almighty determines what is right. He sets the standard, and it is our job to prove or test everything by God’s standard, discarding everything that is false and wrong. In this sense, the Scriptures are our filter.
Our hymnals are full of great songs reminding us of God’s love, His grace, His faithfulness to keep His promises and many similar themes. I’m glad for these songs. Yet I found very few songs to remind us that we live in dangerous times and need to live alertly. So I wrote this song.
Father, keep us alert, sober, watchful, protective, and guarded. Most of all, give us a testing mindset. Sharpen Your people to greater discernment based on regular study of Your Word rather than our own opinions. I ask in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
