He Cares

By Kevin Harris, pastor of the Illawarra Community Baptist Church in Wollongong, NSW

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

1 Peter 5:7

The Apostle Peter is writing to suffering saints. Persecuted Christians have burdens most of us know little about. This verse provides the antidote to children of God who are tempted to be anxious.

The word ‘care’ speaks of worries, burdens, loads of trouble. It is the state of being pulled apart.

All of us carry a load with us. While some may carry heavier loads than others, no one on this planet is trouble-free. It’s the result of the Fall back in Genesis chapter 3.

The antidote is to cast our cares on the One who cares for us more deeply than we may know. ‘Casting’ is ‘having deposited with, throwing something upon something else.’ For example, this word is used of throwing clothes on an animal for riding in Luke 19:35.

Why are we to toss our problems upon the Lord? The verse replies, ‘…for he careth for you.’ He is constantly concerned for you.

Why worry? He is willing to bear your concerns and release you of your cares! He has your best welfare at His heart. So trust Him.

Father, thank You for showing Your care for me by giving me courage to remain faithful in my cares, by giving me wisdom to grasp a situation, by giving me strength to fulfil my responsibilities, by providing for my needs, and by shielding me from dangers that are not in Your plan for me. Keep me from wallowing in my worries. Help me to daily toss my load upon You. I ask this in the Name of the Lord Jesus, Amen.
