The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.
Psalm 25:14
For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.
Proverbs 3:32
Who do you share your most private thoughts with?
We don’t open up our innermost joys, fears, or dreams to strangers, do we? We have to know someone awhile so that we learn that we can trust him.
Secrets are shared by people who spend considerable time together, and have much in common. As friendships form, and we draw ever closer to one another, we begin to be comfortable with divulging our innermost confidences.
With whom does God share His secrets? According to today’s verses, He reveals His hidden things to those who are righteous, those who fear His disapproval, who desire to please Him. These are the saved who commune with Him. We pray without ceasing.1 The Lord may say to us as He did to His friend Abraham2, ‘Shall I hide from Abraham the thing which I do?’3
His secrets are contained in the Bible. We who are saved are honoured to have its Author the Holy Spirit indwelling us.4 He unlocks its meaning to us 5 as we study His Word diligently. 6
Just as two friends get together often, so a Christian often communes with His Saviour, sharing his secrets with the Lord.
How good is the Lord to share His secrets with us!
Father, thank You for the privilege of walking with You, as Enoch and Noah of old. I’m grateful that You share Your secrets with sinners saved by Your grace. I have so much more to learn about Your secrets. As the hymnwriter said, ‘Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, Blessed Lord, to thy precious bleeding side.’ I ask this in the Name of the Lord Jesus, Amen.
